New Wedding Books

We finished two books this week — Susan and Jonathan’s, and Anna and Scott’s. We always feel a huge sense of accomplishment when we finish a book — it’s one of the last steps in finishing a couple’s wedding photography, and each one is a unique and different document of their wedding day. You can see Susan and Jonathan’s book here, and Anna and Scott’s book here.

In case you’re wondering what our process is for making books, here’s what we’ve been doing lately: After the wedding photo previews have been delivered to the bride and groom (either in an online gallery, or in printed form), we ask them to pick their favorite pictures. Perhaps more importantly, we ask them to pick the pictures they never want to see again!

Then we design and lay out the book, carefully matching the mood and style to what we felt when we were at the wedding. This is one of the reasons we do all our book layouts ourselves — even though we could hire a talented intern or send the book off to a book layout company, they would really have no idea what happened at YOUR wedding, and that critical element of emotional connection to the photographs would be lost.

Once we’ve finished the book layout, we post a copy of the two-page spreads online for the couple’s approval. At that point, they can make any changes they like — usually couples ask for a few substitutions — some more than others, but whatever they ask for, we do!

After that, we send the book to the printers, which typically takes around 4 to 6 weeks.

Bride’s Choice Albums

A major part of the cost of an album is the time it takes to design and lay it out. To reduce this cost, and to give bride’s who know exactly what they want, we’ve recently introduced the Bride’s Choice Album. The Bride’s Choice is a coffee-table book similar to our regular books, except that there is one image per page. You pick the images, we put them in the book in the order you request, and send it off to the printer. We do these books in the largest size available — 13″ x 11″ inches, on premium paper. Prices range from $399 for a 100 page book, to $699 for a gorgeous 160 page book. And if that’s not enough, we can usually turn these books around MUCH faster than our standard coffeetable book — you can typically have them in a few weeks, rather than months after your wedding.
